The Maripipians in Toronto
By: Pinky
Fun, fun, fun…the Maripipians' potluck picnic was a success! Although it was in on short notice, the effort in bringing the Toronto Maripipians together was well worth it. It was indeed the best time to meet with other Maripipians who have been away from our beloved island for years. The picnic was held at Earl Bales Park, Northyork. It was attended by Sonia Bacolod - Crisostimo with her husband John Crisostimo; Juaning Bacolod and her husband Victor and two children Joseph and Victoria; Pinky and husband Humberto and two kids Christian and Calvin; Cora Manansala and her three children Christine, Cassandra and Nicholas; Clarita Manansala and her four children Crystal, CJ, Clarence and Clarissa followed by Devon before the end of the picnic. Also Mercidita "Mitch"Cabugoy of Binalayan and Shiela, niece of ate Juaning and Ate Sonia were also there. Reminiscing the childhood memories, remembering the relatives, realizing the changes of the island were among the highlights of the gathering.
The food was excellent which was brought and contributed by everyone, of course the chicken barbecue was the most popular paired with camote and gabi. The kids enjoyed it just as much as we did. The girls had a little showdown showing off their talent in dancing while the little boys played hard as well. Unfortunately, other Maripipians could not attend due to other commitments. Also, the Pride Parade in Toronto during the picnic day was also a major event that may have caused other Maripipians to miss our picnic event.
After all, the few people who attended came to realize the joyful feeling of being united as Maripipians. Such as this event, as our lives unfold, we all know it’s just a beginning of a very good thing. We all agreed to make an event to bring all Maripipians together endeavor on a yearly basis. I would like to sincerely thank Ate Sonia for her gracious help, Chona for her undying effort in creating this website, and thank all the people who participated for the first time ever gathering for all Maripipians in Toronto.
God Bless Us All Maripipians!
